Well, school holidays are just around the corner. The main travel fairs were already over. However, if you are thinking of spending your holidays in Malaysia, the Malaysia Travel Fair is coming up this weekend from Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October.
The venue for this fair is Singapore Expo Hall 6A. The fair is open from 10 am to 9 pm daily. So if you have yet to make bookings for your year-end school holidays, this could be an option.
Visiting Malaysia usually won’t burn too big a hole in the pocket, especially with the current Singapore to Malaysia currency exchange rate of S$1 to MYR3.
However, if you wish to travel further away and haven’t got anything in mind and at the same time don’t wish to break the bank, visiting cities around Shanghai in China could be another option. We took up a package tour with CTC Travel in 2013 and it was pretty good.
It was an 8 Days 7 Nights tour visiting Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Shuzhou, Nanjing flying on Singapore Airlines. We stayed at local 5 stars hotels which were good. Almost all meals were included except one dinner in Shanghai. We paid only around $800 per person booked during the NATAS fair that year.
Of course there were shopping stops during the tour but we were not pressured into buying anything. In fact, quite a few in our group voluntarily spent quite a lot of money during those shopping stops where they felt those products promoted were good. Our tour guide was a young man who was very easy going and knowledgeable as well.
Currently, Dynasty Travel does have one such tour package. Cost for this tour package starts from S$244 + $370 airport tax + another compulsory tour of S$100. Almost all meals would be provided and accommodations would be local 5 stars hotels. Take a look at the tour dates and itinerary if you are interested.
You may notice the price for one of the travel dates has already gone over S$1000 per person and another date selling fast just before Christmas. Other dates you might have to call to check the price.
The itinerary for this tour is slightly different from the traditional Jiangnan Tour which is good for those who had taken such a tour in the past.
The flight timings for Singapore Airlines are very good as well flying off from Singapore in the morning and arriving Shanghai in the afternoon and departing Shanghai in the afternoon and arriving Singapore before 11 pm.
Whether tourists would be pressured into buying stuff during the tour, you will have to check with the Dynasty Travel to confirm. But for under S$800 to stay in local 5 stars hotels for 7 nights in major cities flying on Singapore Airlines with almost all meals provided, it may be worth the risk. Of course, there will be tips for the tour guide and driver in China costing around 320 RMB per person for the whole tour which is not very significant.
This tour package from Dynasty Travel may be booked online. However, the price for the package could be limited to only a certain number for those scheduled travel dates after which the price might go up.
This tour is ideal for those who don’t wish to plan anything and just wish to get out of Singapore for a week to enjoy late autumn and winter months in China with air travel, transfers, hotels and meals plus tour itineraries to tourist attractions all included at a very affordable cost.
If you haven’t visited China, you will be amazed at how prosperous the country is and how much the country has to offer. For a hassle free tour at a reasonable cost, especially when you are too busy to plan anything, this tour around Shanghai Cities might be an eye-opener for you and your family.
So happy tour shopping for your year-end holidays…
