Day 2 – Jakarta Central Park
Our bed with the topper was very comfortable and our sleep was great. As our room booking came with breakfast, we didn’t wait long after waking up to head to the Sky Loft Restaurant for breakfast.
It was a pleasant view again up at the restaurant. It was bright, cheerful and airy and a number of guests were already having breakfast when we arrived. We still managed to get a table and we helped ourselves to the buffet spread. The spread though not very huge, was surprisingly good for the price we paid for the room.
There were local dishes, sushi, western food, bread and pastries and fruits. Of course with the usual fruit juice as well. A coffee maker was also provided for guests to select their own preference for coffee. The food quality was pretty good too. We really enjoyed the ambience of this restaurant and the nice city view to start off our day in Jakarta.
We returned to our room, brushed up, packed up and got ready to check out. We were looking forward to our new shopping venue over at Central Park and our favourite hotel in Jakarta, Pullman Central Park. So off we went to the lobby, paid our outstanding bills and approached concierge for a bluebird taxi to Central Park.
Not long after, we boarded our taxi and it was barely 10 am when we left all seasons Thamrin Jakarta and left for Central Park. There were some traffic jams along the way. By 10.20 am, we arrived at our familiar hotel Pullman Central Park. Security was tight as all bags had to go through the scanner where we likewise had to be scanned before entering the hotel.
There were some guests at front desk but we didn’t wait long to be attended to and all the staff we encountered were polite, professional and friendly. It was still early, so we left our bags with the hotel while we waited for our room.
Meanwhile, we approached concierge to help set up the computer for us to do online check in for our flight for the next day. Having done our check in, we had our boarding passes sent to our email account. When we returned the wireless mouse and keyboard, the staff helped us to get our boarding passes printed out by sending the boarding passes to the hotel’s email account. Within minutes, we received our printouts and the staff here were really professional and efficient. That’s why we loved to come back to this hotel.
It was time for us to head out to Sogo and visit the mall to have lunch before returning to collect our keys to our room. Once again, before we could enter the mall at Central Park, we had to go through a scanner and had our bags checked. Then we entered Sogo Departmental Store just after the security counter.
We had a quick look around and check what Sogo had to offer. Indeed Sogo was having some offers and promotions over the weekend. After a quick survey, we exited Sogo and strolled through this high end mall. There was a car sale event at the mall. This mall was rather big and we walked all the way to the end. Then we descended to the basement level to look for our favorite restaurant for lunch before it got too crowded.
We found our restaurant and took our seats. It was close to noon and the restaurant wasn’t filled up yet. It was still the same familiar restaurant we dined here before. The staff seemed to be the same as well and we loved their friendly service. There was a 30% discount for dim sum items. We ordered dim sum items, beef hor fun and of course avocado and sour sop juices. This first meal at Central Park was delicious and satisfying.
After lunch, we continued to explore the mall and spent some time at Sports Station hoping to get a pair of sports shoe for our younger son. We didn’t find anything that he might like so we took some pictures of a few shoes to check with him later. It was already 2 pm, so we decided to return to Pullman Central Park to get our room.
The hotel was busier now and we had to wait a little while before we could approach one of the staff to collect our room key. We managed to get a non-smoking room with a park view according to our request. So we collected our bags from concierge and took the lift to our room.
The room was just as nice as expected. The king bed was good and comfortable and the sheets clean. Wall mounted TV had many channels and wifi was excellent.
Bathroom had full range of toiletries and the glass cubicle shower stall was see through with critical portions frosted. The toilet was in the inner area of the bathroom.
Coffee and tea making facility came with an espresso coffee maker as well. The park view from our room windows was pleasant and beautiful and even more so at night. Everything was in order so we left our room and went to the swimming pool and health centre for a look.
The swimming pool though not very big was very nice. There was another small pool for little children at one end. However, it was so windy that ripples were formed on the water. No one was swimming when we were there. Health centre offered a range of treatments and Accor Plus members enjoyed discounts.
After this we left Pullman Central Park and went back to the mall next door. We walked through all the way to the other end and exited the mall. We were heading towards Taman Anggrek Mall next door.
We turned right and walked down a slope and turned right again to walk on a short path along a side road towards Taman Anggrek Mall. This short road used to be very difficult to walk on because of vehicles on the road as well as motorbikes parked on the side of this road. This time they had moved all the motorbikes into a parking area beside this road.
Having walked through this road, we didn’t have to walk one big round to the entrance of this mall on the other side. We turned right again and walked down a slope into the car park. Then we turned left and entered the car park and walked towards the entrance into the mall. This saved us a lot of walking outdoor in order to enter the mall.
Once we entered the mall, Matahari Departmental Store was just on the left. This was where we wanted to shop at and we happily entered the store. This day being a Saturday, Matahari had great sales promotion and special offers for a wide range of goods. We spent quite a long time here and bought some clothes.
Next we explored the rest of the shops in the mall and made a quick survey of Metro where we didn’t buy anything there. By this time, we were getting hungry so we left Taman Anggrek Mall and walked back the same way to Central Park Mall.
It was already dark when we left Taman Anggrek Mall. It was pretty to look at both malls from the outside in the evening when they were lighted up. So we went through security clearance when we entered Central Park Mall.
We went straight to our favourite French Bakery Tous les Jours and bought some bread and pastries for breakfast for the next day. This bakery was very popular and we had to queue for a short while before we could make payment.
Then we went back to Pullman Central Park and left all our shopping in the room and then went to the restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was quite crowded with diners mostly enjoying the buffet dinner. We were shown to a table and we ordered from the a la carte menu. We also ordered a pot of TWG chamomile tea.
As expected, bread and butter came first and then the soup of the day. The soup turned out to be a little saltish. Our special local and western dishes came next. The food was great and we were very full.
When the waiter asked about our food, we told him that all was well except the soup which was saltish and he offered to replace another one for us in which we declined as we were really full. Later he came back to inform us the chef would like to offer us a complimentary mango mousse cake as desserts and we accepted this gesture of goodwill. The service standard in Pullman Central Park was very high and that’s why we loved to come back to this hotel.
After dinner, we looked at the cakes and pastries that was on offer with huge discount at night but we didn’t buy any to bring home because our flight the next day would be at night. Next we explored the area outside the restaurant which looked more like an art gallery with art pieces on display everywhere and actually, even inside the restaurant.
We forgot to purchase bottled water, so we left Pullman Central Park again and went back to the mall next door. The park at night was very pretty with lighting enhancing the ambience of the park and the mall and it was lovely to hang out for the evening.
We went to the basement level and bought a bottle of water from Carrefour. There was a promotion outside the supermarket. Sogo was having a promotional event out there. Actually, the basement was rather crowded with shoppers and dinners. There were other shops and restaurants and cafes at this level as well.
So with our final shopping done, we returned to our room in Pullman Central Park. It was time to chill out to watch TV and chat with the children back home. My younger boy didn’t like the shoes from the picture taken earlier so we didn’t pursue the matter. The park view from our room was very nice at night.
As the night wore on while watching comedies on celestial channel, we began to feel weary. Eventually, it was time to close our eyes and end the day of excitement enjoying this very convenient location for shopping and dining. We would have another full day shopping again before our flight out of Jakarta at night the next day. So sweet dreams through the night to prepare for another shopping mission soon.
