Day 3 – Jakarta to Singapore
This was the day where we would depart Jakarta. Our flight was in the evening so we still had the morning and afternoon for shopping.
Our breakfast was the bread and pastries we bought from the French Bakery the night before. Tea and coffee we made were good enough for us. The French bread and pastries were simply delicious. We would be buying more to bring home later.
We had already arranged with front desk for late check out at 2 pm during check in the day before so we brushed up and prepared to head for the malls again. It was still early when we left Pullman Central Park. The shops in Central Park were not open yet so we strolled the park instead and took pictures of the surrounding.
The park was nice and romantic at night and it was pleasant and quiet in the morning. We took our time to stroll the park walking slowly all the way to the end. Our first objective was to head back to Taman Anggrek Mall to shop one last time at Matahari.
Having walked through Central Park, we moved on towards Taman Anggrek Mall. Like the previous day, we took a short cut through a side road and then into the car park of Taman Anggrek Mall. Once we entered the mall through the car park, Matahari was on our left.
It was just past 10 am so Matahari Departmental Store was already open. We went in and shopped again. Since we had shopped here the day before, we knew exactly where to go and what to look for. After more than an hour, we left Matahari. We bought more clothes again and enjoyed huge discount during weekend sales.
We didn’t bother to explore other shops in Taman Anggrek Mall as we needed to return for lunch and check out before 2 pm. We went back to Central Park Mall and returned to our favourite restaurant, The Pines Kitchen at the basement level. It was before 12 noon but the restaurant was already crowded. This was a Sunday morning so more people were free to shop and dine here.
However, we managed to look for a table and we sat down and ordered our lunch. We ordered two glasses of sour sop juice this time on top of the dim sum items and duck rice set. It was a great lunch again. After lunch, we walked back to Pullman Central Park through the basement level.
When we reached the middle of the mall outside Carrefour, we stopped by the promotional event set up by Sogo. I tried on a pair of leather shoe but didn’t get one my size. So we moved on and returned to Pullman Central Park.
Back in our room, we packed up and showered. We rested for a short while and then finally approached front desk to check out just before 2 pm. We paid our outstanding bills and left our bags with concierge.
Then we went back to Central Park Mall and entered Sogo. We went back to the shoes section and tried out the leather shoes here. I managed to find a pair that I like which was not available at the promotional event at the basement level earlier. We bought another pair of shoe for our younger daughter and more clothes and then left Sogo.
Next we went to our favourite French Bakery Tours les Jours to buy bread and pastries to bring home. Again, we needed to queue for a while before we could make payment. This bakery was really popular and the bread and pastries were really good.
After this, we went to the amusement park for a quick look. It wasn’t very crowded but those kids and even young people were really enjoying themselves. There were rides and gaming machines. This amusement park was located at one end of the mall.
As it was still early, we did more window shopping in Central Park Mall. The mall was crowded this afternoon, being a Sunday. Nevertheless, Central Park Mall was pleasant and conducive to hangout during the weekend with so many shops, restaurants and eateries to cater to the needs of both young and old.
Eventually, we decided to return to Pullman Central Park to get ready for an early dinner. It was near to 4 pm when we were back to our hotel. We still had our Accor Plus member’s welcome drinks not consumed yet so we went to the lobby lounge and sat down for our drinks.
We ordered mocha and rested our tired legs. It was great to chill out at this artistic lounge decorated with many art pieces. We took the opportunity to get in touch with our children again with the excellent wifi from the hotel. Having rested sufficiently, we went up to the restaurant for dinner.
It was only 4.30 pm so the restaurant was empty. However, restaurant staff were busy preparing to set up the buffet spread for dinner later.
We took our seats and ordered a pot of TWG Earl Grey tea this time. I ordered pasta while my dear wife ordered the grilled chicken which she enjoyed very much the previous night.
Once again, we had bread and butter before our main course. The food came next and the dinner was great. As Accor Plus members, we enjoyed 50% discount for dining at the restaurant. The restaurant staff were as friendly and helpful as before and our dinner was very satisfying.
After dinner, we approached concierge to collect our bags we left earlier before we went one last round of shopping. We repacked our bags and went to the counter outside Pullman Central Park. We approached the staff on duty to call a bluebird taxi to send us to the airport. After about 10 minutes, our taxi arrived and we boarded and made our way to the airport.
The side roads from Central Park leading to the main road were very congested. It took a while before we could reach the main road. There were some traffic jams on the highway as well even though it was a Sunday evening. Anyway, we arrived at the airport in about an hour. Toll fee was 16,000 IDR on top of the 130,000 taxi fare. We needed not pay surcharge going to the airport.
We approached Jetstar counter with our online boarding passes to exchange for new boarding passes and at the same time paid 150,000 IDR airport tax each. Next, we walked over to immigration and cleared security without any trouble. So we were free to explore the airport to do some window shopping.
There were plenty of gifts shops and duty free shops in the airport. There were cafes and restaurants as well. We went into a few of the shops to look around but didn’t buy anything.
Finally, we went to the holding area to wait for our flight. When we were called to the gate, surprisingly, we had to take a bus to sent us to the aircraft. As such, our flight was delayed as the bus had to travel back and forth to pick up all the passengers from the gate. When all passengers had finally boarded, our flight was further delayed with a long queue of planes waiting to take off. Eventually, our plane took off without any incident after nearly 50 minutes delay.
Fortunately, our flight landed at Changi Airport smoothly without further air traffic delay. By the time we cleared immigration, it was already after midnight. As we had an early dinner, we felt hungry. So we went to Terminal 3 and had a late supper at our favourite noodle stall at the food court. This meal was very good as well.
Without wasting more time, we went to the taxi queue and hopped on to a taxi and were finally homeward bound. Though it was a short 3 days 2 nights shopping trip to Jakarta, it was very enjoyable, especially with shopping at Central Park and the exceptional service we enjoyed at Pullman Central Park Hotel. Our children would be fast asleep when we reached home and we looked forward to showing them our shopping spoils in the morning.
